After 15 months in jail, The Iranian regime re-arrests Jamal Kaabi

The security services of the Iranian regime re-arrested Mr Jamal Kaabi, on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, in the city of Ahwaz.

This is the second time Mr Kaabi gets arrested by the Iranian security forces, as he previously spent fifteen months behind bars in 2017-2018, during which he was subjected to physical and psychological torture, and then was released on an expensive financial bond.

Human rights sources inside Ahwaz reported that heavily armed groups from the intelligence service of the so-called “Revolutionary Guard” had raided the home of Mr Kaabi and threatened all members of his family, including women and children, with weapons, and then tampered with his home and violated his sanctity, and they took him by force of arms to an unknown place.

The sources attributed the arrest of the Ahwazi leader, Jamal Kaabi, is because of his three activist brothers outside of Ahwaz

1- Ahmed Kaabi, one of the founders of the Ahwazi Arab Youth Movement, the National Assembly Movement in Ahwaz, and the president of the Ahwazi National Organization.

2- Jassim Kaabi, one of the founders of the Ahwazi Cultural Committee, the Ahwazi Arab Youth Movement, a former prisoner who spent long periods in captivity in Karun prison in Ahwaz and Evin prison in Tehran and was subjected to the worst forms of physical and psychological torture, and a human rights activist.

3- Abbas Kaabi, a member of the Ahwazi Cultural Committee, a member and a spokesman for the National Rally Movement in Ahwaz, one of the founders of the National Organization for the Liberation of Ahwaz and the current chair of its executive committee.

For its part, the Ahwazi Organization for the Defence of Human Rights condemns the policy of collective punishment that the Iranian regime is pursuing against the Ahwazi activists and their families, and calls for an end to the policy of continuing illegal violations, either with enforced disappearance or arbitrary detention, in violation of international conventions and norms.

The organization stresses that the security prosecutions that affect brothers and relatives of Ahwazi activists abroad have proven to be futile in stopping the flame of the Ahwazi people’s uprising

The organization believes that this crime is added to the record of heinous violations practised by the Iranian regime on an ongoing basis, and in clear violation of the International Covenant on Human Rights, which calls for a serious pause by the United Nations.

The organization stresses that the silence of the international community in the face of the Iranian regime’s crimes will compound the injustice against the defenceless Ahwazi people.
