The nightmare of thirst haunts 800 Ahwazi villages

The nightmare of thirst haunts 800 Ahwazi villages

There is no conversation today inside Ahwaz, except for the nightmare of thirst that haunts the Ahwazi farmers in the first place and threatens their lives, livestock, and agricultural crops if any are left.

Fear has become the dominant feature of Ahwazi streets. The specter of drought is just around the corner for all Ahwazi villages and cities.

What reinforces these concerns are the statements made recently by Mojtaba Yousfi, a member of parliament of the Iranian regime on the city of Ahwaz, during which he confirmed that there are 800 villages that do not receive sustainable drinking water, indicating that this situation arose in the presence of 5 large dams in Ahwaz.

On the approval of the Iranian Leader, Ali Khamenei, to withdraw an amount of 100 million euros from the National Development Fund to solve the problem of water and sanitation in Ahwaz, Yousefi admitted that this credit has not been provided yet.

The issue of water scarcity in the Ahwazi villages is not considered to be a spur of the moment, as the vast majority suffers from discrimination and deprivation due to the actions of the Iranian regime authorities, which have declared the weapon of thirst against the Ahwazi people in order to curb their struggle and impose a new demographic reality on the Ahwazi lands through water abuse.

In May of this year, the anger of the people of the Ghezaniyeh region escalated due to the scarcity of drinking water, which prompted them to block the main road in protest of the continuous water cuts, and the Iranian regime ignored their demands.

The Iranian regime pushed its security services to disperse the protest by force, as the repressive forces severely beat the people, using bullets and batons, which resulted in the injury of many citizens, including a child, and the arrest of others.

A few days later, the spark of anger moved to Juffair, near the city of Howaizeh, where they blocked the main road to protest against the continuous water cuts and the lack of drinking water in the first place.

Accordingly, the Ahwazi Organization for the Defence of Human Rights reiterates that the Iranian regime is pursuing a policy of thirst to displace the Ahwazi people and to pass the project of firing in the Ahwazi lands.

The organization stresses that the water issue calls for urgent action from all international and human rights institutions and organizations to save the Ahwazi people from slow death.
