A 14-year-old child labour hanged himself inside his father’s house, after being under absolute poverty in Mashour City, Al-Ahwaz.

One of Mohammed’s friends narrated important details about the victims’ life which forced him to end his life in such a way, and most importantly the absolute poverty he lived in.

Mohammed’s friend confirmed that the victim was forced to leave school last year due to financial problems and being the breadwinner for his family and elderly parents. Hence, his conditions worsened and his worries intensified, as he lived in the most under-developed area in the central Mashour city.

His close friend stated that Mohammed worked as a street vendor, and recently turned to the business of selling pure water using a bicycle provided by his relatives, however, due to the Corona pandemic no one was willing to buy water from him.

Also, he revealed that in the past years besides his work as a street vendor, he had worked as a footballer in the Mashour football stadium in order to pay for his education.

Some athletes stated that during the years Mohammed was studying, he asked them repeatedly for 5,000 tomans so that he could purchase a desk and a pen to continue his education.

Accordingly, the Ahwazi Organization for the Defense of Human Rights affirms that the tragic suicide was not the first and apparently will not be the last, due to the racist and discriminatory Iranian regime’s policies against all groups of Ahwazi people.

The organization notes that the repeated incidents of suicides are real evidence of the Iranian regime and its pillars criminality. In addition, it is a clear message that conveys the devastating social and economic conditions of the Ahwazi people. Furthermore, it reveals the Iranian regime’s policies which deliberately impoverish the Ahwazi people and creating unemployment to distract them from demanding their freedom and consequently incapacitating them as well as reducing their ambitions and aspirations.

Thus, the organization calls on all human rights organizations to take urgent and immediate action to curb the brutal policies of the Iranian regime against children inside Al-Ahwaz and working toward preserving their rights.
