The Iranian intelligence apparatus kidnapped Farhan Haidari, a resident of the Bardis neighbourhood of Ahwaz, the capital, while he was returning to work in Kuwait after spending his annual vacation.

Haidari, 57, had travelled to Kuwait to work decades ago and has Kuwaiti work residency, as he returned to Ahwaz from time to time to follow up on his family’s affairs.

In the details, human rights sources said “As soon as Farhan Haidari’s vacation expired and was preparing to head back to Kuwait, COVID-19 hit, and the Kuwaiti government put policies that force returning workers to stay in a corona free country for two weeks. Mr Farhan chose his flight from Tehran airport to Turkey for a two-week stay, and then to Kuwait.

The sources pointed out that communications were cut off between Farhan and his family, but his colleagues on the same flight told them that he was arrested at the Khomeini airport in Tehran by Iranian intelligence.

The sources indicated that Haidari’s family immediately contacted the security and intelligence services and the courts of the Iranian regime to know his fate. However, everyone they contacted denied such allegations until now.

For its part, the Ahwazi Organization for the Defence of Human Rights condemns Iran’s criminal practices against the Ahwazi people, whose world keeps on getting harder as a result of racial discrimination, widespread unemployment and the siege of extreme poverty in Ahwaz.

The organization notes that Haidari is one example for dozens of Ahwazis who went out in search of securing a decent life for their families and endured alienation in order to achieve this, but they were not spared from the criminality of the Iranian regime.

The organization calls on the international community and the International Labor Organization to urgently and immediately intervene to release Farhan Haidari and put pressure on the Iranian regime to reveal his place of detention, holding the Iranian security and intelligence services fully responsible for his life.
