The Iranian regime authorities launched a mass arrest campaign against the organizers of protests against unemployment and the settlement of Persian workers in the Ahwazi village of Moran.

Human rights sources said that among the detainees were Qais Jalil Nasiri, Qasim Nasiri Ramadan, Habib Mu’awi, and Fadhil Hakim Kurdoni, while the identity of others who were arrested by the Iranian security forces and took them to an unknown place is  not yet known.

The protesters organized a peaceful march to protest the non-employment of Ahwazis, widespread unemployment, and the replacement of indigenous people with Persian settlers in sugar cane projects.

The Ahwazi Organization for the Defence Human Rights condemns the policy of racial discrimination practiced by the regime authorities against the Ahwazi people, on top of which is the denial of employment in companies and various departments inAhwaz.

The organization denounces the Iranian regime’s bringing in Persian settlers, providing them with job opportunities, and overcoming obstacles in front of them inside Ahwazi lands, which made unemployment rates in Ahwaz the highest compared to other regions in Iran’s geography.

It also indicates that the Ahwazi workers are subjected to daily violations of degrading and inhuman treatment and extortion to withhold their financial dues, in clear violation of the rules of international law, international conventions and relevant human rights charters, calling for the activation of international law on workers.

The Ahwazi Organization for the Defence of Human Rights renews its demand for civil society organizations, the United Nations and bodies concerned with workers’ rights, to oblige the Iranian regime to stop its racist measures against Ahwazi workers, and to hold it accountable for its crimes against them.
