A new violation .. Iranian intelligence is launching a ruthless arrest campaign against Ahwazi women activists

In a new violation, the Iranian Intelligence Service launched a ruthless campaign targeting Ahwazi women activists in separate areas in Ahwaz.

According to human rights sources, among the detainees are the cultural activist Fatima Tamimi, the Ahwazi activist Maryam Ameri, and the social activist Azhar Bougabish.

A heavily armed force from the Iranian intelligence apparatus raided the house of the Arab cultural, activist Fatima Tamimi, in the city of Ma’ashur, at dawn on Wednesday, December 10, and took her to an unknown location.

Fatima Tamimi – 39 years old-, married and mother of two children Maha 15 years old and Mohammed 11 years old – is active in children’s literature and research in Arab folklore.

Tamimi was known for her diligence and perseverance in registering Arab cultural heritage as part of its purely peaceful activities. She was travelling from one village to another to collect Arabic stories and songs, and to record the history of Ahwaz and the historical battles.

Tamimi produced several short documentaries about poverty, addiction, unemployment, and social problems of the Ahwazi people, and recently. In its works, Tamimi touched upon the effects and consequences of the floods on the Ahwazi community.

Another force from the Iranian intelligence service stormed the home of Ahwaz activist Maryam Amri, without warning, in Amri neighbourhood, located in the capital, Ahwaz, and moved her to an unknown location.

Human rights sources inside Ahwaz confirmed that the security forces raided the house of Mrs Maryam Amri and tampered with her private property before taking her to one of the secret centres of the Iranian intelligence, in which the worst types of torture and abuse to Ahwazi activists were practised.

The sources revealed the arrest of the activist Azhar Bougabish, and her two brothers, Abbas and Reda, from the city of Falahiyah, were taken to the headquarters of the Revolutionary Guard, and later taken to an unknown location.

The same sources indicated that Mrs Azhar Bougabish – 20 years old – was about to get married, and her social activity focused on helping the poor in this city.

Accordingly, the Ahwazi Organization for the Defence of Human Rights holds the Iranian regime and its repressive security apparatus fully responsible for the lives of the three activists, namely “Fatima Tamimi, Maryam Amri, and Azhar Bougabish”.

The organization affirms that Ahwazi women have proven themselves in all social, literary and political fields, especially resisting Iranian tyranny, to always confirm that they are the most difficult number in the equation of the Ahwazi struggle.

The organization calls on all international institutions and bodies concerned with human rights, especially those interested in defending women, to queue so that the Ahwazi glorified women can gain their freedom and regain their dignity in light of a reactionary regime based on an inferior view of women.

The Arab Women Organization and UN Women, as the main global advocate for women and girls’ issues, calls for serious and effective action to release Ahwazi activists and all detainees in the Iranian regime’s prisons and to work on finding effective and efficient mechanisms to hold accountable those who violate women’s rights and dignity.
